When Replying to Craigslist Ads

Sure, almost everybody who is looking for a job or is looking for an employee knows about Craigslist. So recently a client of mine asks me to post several available jobs for website designer, graphic designer and other stuff, I got to experience first hand at receiving resumes. I was surprised at how casual a lot of job applicants are in applying for a job.

When I apply, usually I create a cover letter or an introduction letter about myself and my experiences, then I include the entire body of the resume in the body of the email as a lot of employers do not like to receive attachments.

But a lot of those application emails I received don’t have any cover letter, some instead of putting in their resumes, puts in a lot of questions ( I haven’t even seen their resume to know they are qualified or not and I am bombarded with questions ), others just listed their website, no introduction or anything, in short just go to their website and figure out what they do and what are their skills. Worst, others just attached their resume and put the body of the email Blank.

If I were an employer looking for employees, I wouldn’t want to bother with those that just sent in their website or just attach their resume, cause they are by far too lax and therefore wouldn’t make a diligent employee specially if we are talking virtual where there is a very minimal supervision involved.

So as an advice to all job applicants specially the virtual ones, If you want to be taken seriously as a job applicant, then please do the proper thing when applying for a job position - write a cover letter or introduction letter and include your resume. You will have a bigger chance of being hired.
